AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS
Course Description:
This afterschool enrichment program introduces students to farm-craft and field studies, with tutored homework focusing on math and writing skills. Sessions augment standard education requirements and reach beyond them, to teach life skills.
Structure of activities:
Session size is limited in order to assure a high quality learning atmosphere. Participants work both in teams and individually in a supervised, hands-on learning environment followed-up with regular reports home.
Educational Objectives:
Students experience the thrill of designing and building usable projects. They have a chance to explore in the woods, build forts and become familiar with their natural neighbors. Most of all, they get to share these experiences in a fun and caring atmosphere as they draw connections between the natural world and life in the 21st century.
Facilities and equipment:
Programs are designed to take place at a local farmstead. Students have access to environmental resources, such as field guides. Participants in different schools have the opportunity to communicate with each other via the web. We are currently accepting applications from students in the northern Chatham and Pittsboro area.
